| |March 20174CIOReviewEditorialVOL 5 · ISSUE 3 - 1 · MARCH - 2017As the broadband internet became reality and now that the mobile web has gone mainstream for business, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution providers have followed the market. In the beginning, legacy on-premises vendors offered ported versions of their offerings. Then pure-play startups entered the space with native applications in the cloud. Now hybrid versions combine the best of both as large enterprises rationalize their install base. SaaS has come a long way, from supplanting the retail software model to enabling companies to access their data on the cloud. Suppliers are working to improve SaaS infrastructure to accommodate the requirements of SMEs and it is interesting to see how this industry will evolve in 2017. The previous year brought Artificial Intelligence (AI) personal assistant space to the people. The same is being anticipated this year where home enhancement and simplification is unquestionably a trend in AI. Also, 2017 will see the ever more growing significance of mobile-friendly applications because smartphones and tablets are being used by increasing number of people. With the increase in mobile usage, security is becoming an important subject because mobile raises the risks of security gaps and it can reveal both personal and enterprise networks. Considering its effectiveness, SaaS has grown ahead itself to something now termed as the XaaS model, "Everything-as-a-Service." Pay-as-you-go models are being used by a majority of manufacturers and channel partners to compute their companies as they welcome new technology through cloud-based services. Having products that are employable to only one function is not effective enough for b2b SaaS companies anymore. In 2017, products that have met their niches will move forth to even highly developed platforms. In this issue, CIOReview presents to you 20 Most Promising SaaS Solution Providers who have successfully helped organizations with their innovative offerings. These companies pride themselves on keeping pace with the latest technological advancements in this domain. We hope this issue gives you helpful insight into this market landscape.
