| | June 20208IN MY OPINIONn India, technology is pro-gressive and steadily mov-ing to an advanced stage in the Government and public sector. In the past few years, these sectors have opened to technology and are warming-up to Digital Transforma-tion initiatives. This is heartening to see not just because it gives business-es and citizens of the country easy, efficient and fast processes, but also because it has forced a number of technology-averse organizations to sit-up and invest in technology. Additionally, it has resulted in (call it as a `Corollary to the Theore') · Modernization of government offices which are required to maintain an IT Setup· Upgrade of its staff, as other-wise, they would be in danger of becoming defunctInitiatives viz NetBanking, UPI, BHIM, GST Returns, IT Returns, EPFO, Aadhaar, Electoral Forms, MCA & SEBI Forms & Reposi-tory, Online Tickets, Admissions the list can go on and on. Look-ing at the technology roadmap for the country, these are some of the technologies that Government and Public sectors must invest in. While we are aware that some of these ini-tiatives are already in progress, be-low are some highlights on the areas in which these technologies have maximum impact.Language Inclusion: If tech-nology has to reach the length and breadth of India, it cannot be done in one language. A comprehensive plan of unicode and uniform keyboard layouts specifically developed for Indian languages will go a long way in technology outreach. Translation and online availability of our his-torical assets are required to preserve our scriptures and manuscripts. This will also increase the ability to do more research and outcome-based approaches by taking advantage of this powerhouse of knowledge.Digitization: While this is a very misinterpreted term, by this, not only must governments digitize their existing records, but they should look at doing away with paper based forms altogether and move to an era of online forms and processing.
