Businesses small and large have strived to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to investing in futuristic technology implementations. While some have refrained from all-encompassing overhaul of their existing infrastructure and business processes, choosing to bring about the transformation in a moderate manner, many have flagged off audacious implementations and achieved astounding results. The rate of adoption of emerging technology trends like digital transformation, automation, artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies, edge computing, serverless computing, and blockchain has increased exponentially, with large enterprises showing 10 times higher adoption rate than small businesses. Modernizing legacy core systems and the need to refurbish outdated IT infrastructure are being touted as the primary areas attracting IT budget allocation. Financial services organizations have been one of the frontrunners in early adoption of emerging technologies, boasting high adoption of IT automation, serverless computing, AI technology, and blockchain technology. Education industry has exhibited high rate of adoption of 3D printers, AR/VR, and Gamification while healthcare has ardently adopted IoT, converged or hyperconverged infrastructure, and container technology. Data being the key to decision making, enterprises have paid due heed to data analytics in 2019. With the burgeoning data waiting to be leveraged, the industry has witnessed an unwavering orientation among businesses towards data analytics. With the increasing influx of data, security risks have evolved as well, compelling businesses to be on their toes and redefine their cyber risk strategies. As a result, this year we saw security mechanisms becoming more proactive, with usage of machine-learning mechanisms to identify and pre-empt attacks, for instance. In 2020, the majority of large enterprises are expected to be using blockchain technology in some way or the other. Also, most organizations have plans to use gigabit Wi-Fi networking technology, accelerate IT automation, adopt IoT devices, use converged or hyperconverged infrastructure, and utilize container technology. It would be interesting to see enterprises bring their initiatives to fruition.
