| |December 20194EditorialCognitive technology is being used in the same breath as artificial intelligence, notwithstanding it being way more advanced than AI. However, with time we are going to see the realization dawning on us, when we will have to acknowledge its wide ranging applications in the industry as well as in our daily lives. It has the potential to make humans a run for their money, functioning at virtually the same intellectual level. As a result, more CEOs and managers are starting to recognize the benefits of implementing cognitive technologies at their organizations. There are many drivers for the use of cognitive technologies, like enhancing customer experience or reducing operational costs. IDG in partnership with Stefanini conducted a recent survey that shows that more than 70 percent of the respondents are al-ready using cognitive technology for one or more purposes, and 63 percent plan to implement it. Customer experience improve-ment was found to be the top driver for the use of cognitive tech-nologies, followed by user/employee experience improvement, and reduced operational costs. Improving accuracy and/or speed in decision-making and modernizing/transforming business pro-cesses are tied, while keeping up with industry competitors is the lowest driver. Although this technology has a broad range of applications, reports from Deloitte predict that the industry sector most affected by this trend initially will be software sec-tor with 95 percent of the enterprise software companies that are projected to adopt these technologies in the coming years by 2020 eventually. In light of such prospective growth of the mar-ket, businesses small and large have already started testing the waters and are coming up with innovative breakthroughs.
