| |October 20188CIOReviewobility is an area which is witnessing one of the highest paces of change globally and it is unique in a way that this change is not only driven by innovation arising from the cus-tomer needs but also heavily driv-en by the social, environmental, fiscal and regulatory commitments. The pace of this change itself is go-ing to change rapidly in the coming years and I personally feel that in the next few years this change will be driven more due to sustaina-bility. In the developed world, sustainability revolves around the subject of environment and pollution whereas in the developing world where India is included, the issue is very complex due to the lack of proper public transport, inefficient infrastructure, congestion and rapid pace of urbanization. In India be-sides all these challenges, we have another issue which is the wide gap in the income groups and diverse geo-political structure. The Governments, both at the centre and the states, will have to focus on the improvement of mass public transport and to provide improved in-frastructure for intercity connectivity. While the government will have to play an active role, the consumer behaviours and preferences will play a major catalyst in this process. It is often said that, there are 2 types of India which exits: the Urban India and the Rural Bharat. Mobility will also see 2 diverse but parallel existences in India. The penetration of cars in Rural Bharat will increase along with the increasing purchase power, and we will see more utility vehicles being bought which will be used both for personal and business use. However, the Urban India will witness a major shift in the mobility space. While an improved and sustainable public transport in the urban India is likely to resolve major challenges, the personal mobility space is likely to see a huge shift primarily powered by the digital tools for improved aggregation and multi-modality options with personalized and flexible transportation solution for individuals. Over a period of time, the pride of owner-ship of car will drasti-cally reduce and it will be considered just as a tool for transportation. The Millennials which will form the major part of the population in the Urban India are less likely to own a house or THE FUTURE OF AUTOMOTIVE: DRIVEN BY PEOPLE, POWERED BY DIGITALBy Suvajit Karmakar, Chief Executive Officer, ALD AutomotiveMALD Automotive is a global leader in mobility solutions providing full service leasing and fleet management services across 43 countries and manages 1.51 million vehicles worldwide.Suvajit KarmakarIN MY OPINION
